Hello and welcome to Year One!
Our whole Year One team is here to support your child’s learning and development and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child and yourselves to Year One.
The Year One team are:
- Holly Taylor-Gererd
- Tanya Morris
- Shochna Begum
There will be lots of exciting learning taking place this year, in all areas of the curriculum.
Some of the things your child will be learning in English will be to write labels and lists and captions as well as short stories.
In maths they will consolidate their knowledge of number up to 20.
They will also be learning about the local area in geography and seasonal changes in science.
Reading is very important. Your child will have regular reading sessions in class, but they would also benefit greatly from further reading at home too. Each child will receive a new book to take home every Thursday. Please make sure that book bags are brought into school each day. Your child be given a reading diary or journal. Please make sure that you read with your child every day and sign their reading diary.
A new task will be given in the learning logs every two weeks on a Friday.
Please make sure that your child brings in a full PE kit every Monday. Year One will have PE on a Monday and on a Tuesday. They will take their PE kit home on Tuesday.
For PE, each child should wear shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms and their ‘House Colours’ T-shirt. They will also need trainers for PE.
Children should wear school uniform every day.
The school colours are navy blue, to be worn with grey, black or white.
A white shirt or white, red or blue polo shirt
A blue jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
Navy blue, black or grey trousers or skirt.
Children are encouraged to wear a jumper or cardigan with the school logo on it but can also wear plain navy blue jumpers, cardigans or fleeces. School jumpers, cardigans and fleeces with the school logo can be purchased from Khalsa Schoolwear on Bethnal Green Road.
In the summer term, blue and white striped or checked dresses, or blue shorts are also suitable.
Please remember …
- to tell the office or your child’s teacher if someone other than yourself will be collecting your child at the end of the day.
- to write your child’s name in their coat, uniform and PE kit
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to speak to any member of the Year One team at the start or end of the school day.
Thank you for all your support
